I am using several widgets on this weblog, as you may have noticed already. One of the most impressive, at least to me, is the one provided by Widgetbox - see at the right hand-side column : 'Yahoo! Finance', 'One Frame At A Time', and my Skype status are three widgets from three different sources embedded into a single one, managed by WidgetBox. Very nice, very easy to set-up : you select the widgets you want to insert on your blog, put them into your own widget panel on WidgetBox, and click 'Publish'. Poom, done : your blog now features those widgets. Pretty cool, huh ?
To be honnest, I was thinking about widgets since the first time I saw Steve Jobs introducing Mac OS X 'Tiger', months ago : the widgets' technic enables so many new ways of dealing with a machine. A whole new world of new user interfaces opens up. The End-User will be able to build his own U.I., according to his needs, his background, his knowledge, etc. Buy the core application, and add your own features through adding widgets. You don't know programming ? No problem : go on the Web to find ready-to-use widgets. You don't even know how to add widgets in your app ? No problem : ask your vendor, who will upload them for you through the Net. See the Revolution coming ?...
